SIBU, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) badminton squad is fired up to top their performance from two years ago in Kuala Lumpur.

As they get ready to compete on home turf, all eyes will be on the Sibu Indoor Stadium when the competition begins on Saturday.

Team manager Ting Ching Zung is brimming with confidence, noting the team’s impressive balance across all six competition categories.

“I don't want to give them unnecessary pressure at this point, but I will say they are equally well prepared. I just want to give them my best motivation for them to perform well.

“Last edition, after 30 over years, we got our first medal, in mixed doubles. So, this year, I think we should be able to get more. We are targeting podium finishes,” he told Bernama when met at the Sibu Indoor Stadium here today.

Ting also credited the unwavering support from the Sarawak government, which has been instrumental in their preparation for SUKMA 2024. This backing has been a major motivator for the players to push their limits.

In the 2022 edition in Kuala Lumpur, Owen Ting Shih Wee and Wong Ling Ching broke a 30-year medal drought for Sarawak with a bronze in mixed doubles.

Six gold medals are up for grabs in badminton.
