SUKMA 2024: 78 Gold Medals At Stake Tomorrow, With Martial Arts Offering 32

KUCHING, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Martial arts sports will be in the spotlight again tomorrow, offering 32 out of the total of 78 gold medals at stake in the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

Tomorrow also marks the much-awaited presence of martial arts fan favourite Miki when the muay thai competition is held at the Paragon Mall in Bintulu.

Miki, whose real name is Muhammad Mikail Ghazali Zulfikar and who is the younger brother of national muay thai sensation Muhammad Johan, will be in action against Melaka’s Muhammad Zulfakar Othman.

There will be 14 gold medals at stake in muay thai tomorrow, while pencak silat over at the Miri City Stadium offers eight golds.

Meanwhile, the opening day of judo and silambam, held at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Hikmah Exchange Event Centre respectively, will each offer four gold medals while the fourth day of the taekwondo competition at the Petra Jaya Unity Stadium will see two gold medals up for grabs.

A total of 13 gold medals will be at stake on the second day of the athletics competition at the Sarawak Stadium and all eyes will be on Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee and Nur Afrina Batrisyia Mohamad Rizal when they compete in the men’s and women’s 200m event following their 100m golden exploits today.

Another 12 gold medals will be in the offing at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre tomorrow, with nine in swimming and three in diving.

Other sports offering gold medals tomorrow include shooting (six golds); sepak takraw (four); petanque (three); weightlifting (three); bowling (two); fencing (two ); and badminton (one). 

SUKMA 2024, which officially began on Aug 17, ends on Saturday (Aug 24).
