KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysian riders are expected to create an impact in Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2024 with the opportunity to grab the white jersey (Best Asia Rider) and also a podium position when the prestigious Asian cycling race gets rolling this Sunday.

The confidence was voiced by LTdL 2024 chief operating officer, Emir Abdul Jalal who is optimistic about the ability of the local riders based on their current performance in the last edition despite realising that this edition remains a fierce challenge.

Among the riders mentioned as a top potential is Izzat Hilmi Abdul Halil from Malaysia Pro Cycling Team (MPC) who has recorded two top five finishes in previous editions.

"He showed his prowess last year and got good positions in several stages so I think it's possible for him to get on the podium this time," he told Bernama.

As for the fight for the white jersey, the name of Muhammad Nur Aiman Rosli from Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) springs up after successfully grabbing the jersey during Stage 3 of LTdL 2023.

"For the overall champion (GC), I expect Muhammad Nur Aiman to stand out in the battle, especially for the white jersey this year since his performance stays convincing," he said.

The 2024 LTdL race will start in Langkawi for Stage 1, followed by Stage 2 from Arau to Butterworth, Taiping to Cameron Highlands (Stage 3), Kuala Kubu Baru to Bentong (Fraser's Hill - Stage 4), Kuala Lumpur to Melaka (Stage 5), Batu Pahat to Kulai (Stage 6), Miri to Bintulu (Stage 7), and Bintulu (Stage 8).

A total of 22 teams will participate in the ProSeries (2.Pro) status race with a total distance of 1,190 kilometres (km), starting on Sept 29 from Langkawi Island and entering Miri and Bintulu in Sarawak for the first time.
