LTdL 2024: Izzat Hilmi Eyes Podium Finish Despite First Stage Setback

29/09/2024 06:55 PM

LANGKAWI, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Pro Cycling (MPC) rider Mohamad Izzat Hilmi Abdul Halil is not yet satisfied with his performance, despite being named the best Malaysian rider in the first stage of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2024 today.

Izzat Hilmi, 29, who had earlier stated his goal of securing his first podium finish, ended the 97.5-kilometre race from Kuah around Pulau Langkawi in seventh place.

However, the MPC team's sprint specialist said he still walked away from the first stage with positives.

"My goal was actually to be on the podium in the first stage, but it didn't happen.

"Nevertheless, I’m grateful that everything went smoothly and I didn’t suffer any injuries throughout the race. I won’t be content until I reach the podium," he said after the race.

Meanwhile, Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) rider Muhammad Nur Aiman Rosli is determined to defend his title as the Best Asian Rider (white jersey) in the next stage.

Nur Aiman Rosli earned four points, allowing him to don the white jersey, which he considers a strong start in maintaining his consistent performance for the remainder of the race.

The LTdL 2024 will continue with the second stage from Arau to Butterworth, spanning 154.5 km, featuring three sprint zones in Jitra, Menara Alor Setar and Sungai Petani tomorrow.
