KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 -- The following are the updates on COVID-19 figures in Malaysia and its Southeast Asian neighbours as at 7 pm today.
Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is now waiting for the results of the Phase 3 trial of the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine on young children before it approves the vaccine for use on children as young as three years old.
Bangkok Post reported Biogenetech Co, the importer of the Sinopharm vaccine, has already submitted the results from the first and second phases of a study on the safety of administering the vaccine to children.
Currently, the vaccine is approved for use on people aged 18 and over and the company has requested approval that it be used on children from the ages of 3 and over.
In Laos, Phnom Penh Municipal Authority says that only 24 teachers and educators in Phnom Penh tested positive for COVID-19, out of a total of 10,419 teachers and staff who took a rapid test prior to the reopening of schools on Wednesday.
Khmer Times reported 227 Secondary and high schools in Phnom Penh will be reopened tomorrow – 68 public institutions and 159 private institutions - with 10,443 teaching staff and 139,578 students set to return to school.
Malaysia on Tuesday saw the number of confirmed cases surpassing the two million mark with the number of fatalities now above 21,000.
