KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- In a significant humanitarian effort, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has dispatched more than 40,000 tonnes of essential supplies to the Gaza Strip, utilising ships, trucks, flights, and air drops to address the urgent needs amid ongoing crisis conditions.

The aid has been transported through various channels, including eight aid ships, 1,271 trucks, and 414 flights including 104 air drops, according to data released by the UAE Strategic Department and shared by the Embassy of the UAE in Kuala Lumpur.

“The UAE initiatives, and the comprehensive ‘Gallant Knight 3’ operation, continue to provide humanitarian and relief support to the Gaza Strip,” it said.

The initiative 'Gallant Knight 3' is a humanitarian operation aimed at supporting the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Led by the Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence, it collaborates closely with the Emirates Red Crescent, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the Zayed Charitable & Humanitarian Foundation, and other UAE institutions to deliver crucial humanitarian aid to those affected by the ongoing conflict.

The UAE, in cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United States, Cyprus, the United Nations, and several international donors, delivered 2,176 tonnes of food supplies by sea to the Gaza Strip, in partnership with the American Near East Refugee Aid (Anera).

Besides that, the UAE and the World Central Kitchen successfully delivered 300 tonnes of food relief to Gaza via the Maritime Corridor, and distributed the aid in northern Gaza.

Meanwhile, the UAE has established six desalination plants with a combined capacity of 1.2 million gallons per day, providing crucial support to the Gaza Strip and benefiting over 600,000 people daily to address the ongoing water crisis.

To ensure a steady supply of bread, a staple food in the region, the UAE has deployed five automatic bakeries to meet the daily needs of over 72,000 people. Additionally, the UAE is providing flour to eight existing bakeries in Gaza to support the daily needs of 17,140 people

To support the healthcare needs of Gaza's population, two hospitals has been established following the directive of its President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

A field hospital in the southern Gaza Strip, with a capacity of 200 beds, is supervised by an Emirati medical team and staffed with more than 100 doctors, nurses, pharmacists and lab technicians.

To further support the field hospital, the UAE launched a 100-bed floating hospital anchored at Al-Arish Port on February 26, 2024. The floating hospital has provided medical services to 4,201 cases, bolstering the healthcare infrastructure available to the people of Gaza.

The UAE has also implemented the Comprehensive National System (R100), which aims to provide medical treatment for 1,000 Palestinian cancer patients and 1,000 sick children from the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the UAE has allocated significant financial resources to support Gaza, including US$20 million to United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), US$15 million to the Amalthea Fund for the Maritime Corridor initiative between Cyprus and Gaza Strip, US$11.7 million to the World Food Programme (WFP) for food relief, and US$10 million to support the health sector in Gaza, in cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO).
