Vietnam’s Fruit And Vegetable Exports Poised For Record Us$7 Billion In 2024

HANOI, Aug 19 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are projected to reach a record US$7 billion in 2024, driven by continuous double-digit growth, reported Xinhua quoting a Vietnam News Agency report Monday.

In the first seven months of the year, the country earned US$3.83 billion from these exports, marking a 24.3 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association.

Among Vietnam's 10 biggest fruit and vegetable importers, nine markets recorded double-digit growth during the cited period.

Dang Phuc Nguyen, the association's general secretary, said the export values of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables tend to increase. In addition to upholding its reputation in China, a traditional market, Vietnam has expanded exports to Northeast Asian countries.

Northeast Asia is a strategic market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables. Export businesses not only benefit from tariffs but also can reduce transportation and logistics costs compared to markets such as the EU and the United States, Nguyen said.

In the Northeast Asian region, China is Vietnam's largest fruit and vegetable export market with 12 products.

Vietnam's Plant Protection Department is opening the market for citrus fruits, medicinal plants, and frozen durian to China.
