Thailand's New Cabinet To Be Finalised This Week

BANGKOK, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Thailand's new cabinet is expected to be finalised this week, according to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

Paetongtarn told local Thai media at the National Defence College on Monday that she expects to finalise talks with the leaders of the ruling alliance, comprising her Pheu Thai Party and 10 other parties, on the makeup of her cabinet this week.

Paetongtarn was quoted by Thai media as saying that she has made no promise to retain all cabinet members appointed by Srettha Thavisin’s government.

Meanwhile, Thai News Agency reported that Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said Pheu Thai would ask the coalition partners to submit their selections for cabinet office soon, allowing for qualification checks and avert any further political turmoil.

Phumtham is also expected to chair an acting cabinet meeting on Tuesday at the Government House.

Thailand's ruling 11-party alliance is led by Pheu Thai. The alliance include two military-linked rivals: the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) and the United Thai Nation (UTN).

The coalition holds 314 of the 493 parliamentary seats – nearly two-thirds of the total.
