21/08/2024 05:20 PM

ANKARA, Aug 21 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- Reports that Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek intends to leave his post are false, the Centre for countering disinformation under the Turkish Presidency's Directorate of Communications said on Wednesday, reported Sputnik.

These reports have surfaced in a number of opposition media outlets and on social networks.

"Claims that Minister Simsek has decided to leave his post and that he was persuaded to remain in office are untrue. Do not rely on disinformation news that is intentionally spread to cause concern and distrust in the markets," the centre said in a statement.

Annual inflation in Turkiye fell sharply over the month — by almost 10 percentage points, to 61.78 per cent in July, according to the country's statistical office. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed hope that the annual inflation rate will fall below 50 per cent in September.
