MOSCOW, Aug 27 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- US billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk advocated on Tuesday for a bill on mandatory verification of artificial intelligence (AI) systems that the Californian state legislature will debate this week, reported Sputnik.
"This is a tough call and will make some people upset, but, all things considered, I think California should probably pass the SB 1047 AI safety bill," Musk wrote on X.
If passed, the bill will require companies that develop large-scale AI-based systems to regularly check their systems for safety. In particular, they will need to ensure that their AI systems can be completely disabled in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
Earlier, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that AI posed existential risks to humanity and called for it to be regulated before it was too late. Companies like Google and OpenAI have already voluntarily committed to reducing the risks of their AI systems.
