02/09/2024 12:44 PM

MOSCOW, Sept 2 (Bernama-Sputnik) - Moscow Exchange (MOEX) does not plan to launch cryptocurrency trading, said Nikolai Trunichkin, the head of digital projects and products at Moscow Exchange, reported Sputnik.

The announcement clarifies the exchange's stance on digital currencies amidst growing global interest in crypto markets.

"Moscow Exchange has no plans to trade cryptocurrency," he said.

The trading platform also does not plan to issue its own digital financial assets (DFA).

"Moscow Exchange does not plan to act as an issuer of DFA. We are building the infrastructure of a new market for issuers and investors and do not see ourselves in other roles at this stage," Trunichkin said.

On August 8, President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing exchange trading and cross-border settlements in cryptocurrency in Russia to be conducted under experimental legal regimes (ELR) from September 1.

In August 2023, the Moscow Exchange Group received licenses from the Bank of Russia to operate as an information system operator and a digital financial assets exchange operator.
