Palestinian Health Ministry Reports 69 Per Cent Of Children In Gaza Vaccinated Against Polio

08/09/2024 07:33 PM

RAMALLAH, Sept 8 (Bernama-WAFA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that 69 per cent of children in Gaza, aged from birth to 10 years, have received the first dose of the polio vaccine, Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.

In a statement, the ministry detailed that this achievement was reached within seven days of launching the first phase of the polio vaccination campaign.

The campaign, which is ongoing in the governorates of Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, as well as surrounding areas, has so far administered the vaccine to 441,647 children, as of Saturday evening. This includes 49 per cent females and 51 per cent males.

The ministry noted that the first phase of the vaccination campaign will continue in the Gaza and North Gaza governorates.

Health teams from the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), World Health Organisation (WHO), and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), are persevering with the vaccination efforts despite the ongoing Israeli aggression and the significant challenges posed by the current security situation affecting the movement between vaccination centres.
