Global Unity Essential To Combat Invisible Threats -- South Korean PM

SEOUL, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Invisible threats including cyber terrorism, deepfakes, disinformation campaigns, large-scale disasters and infectious diseases cannot be addressed solely through national defence, said South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck Soo.

“It requires the commitment and efforts of the international community to tackle these threats, which has become a crucial task now.

“Currently, South Korea is leading the way to become a significant global nation through sectors such as semiconductors, green industries, and cultural industries, while maintaining military vigilance against North Korea threats, which has persisted for over 70 years,” he said in his speech at the Seoul Defence Dialogue (SDD) 2024, here, Wednesday.

On North Korea, Han noted as the rogue nation had forged close strategic partnerships with Russia, both militarily and economically, it now not only poses a security threat in the Korean Peninsula but also globally.

Han stated that South Korea responds decisively to North Korea’s provocations and threats based on its overwhelming strength and solid alliances.

Also present at the dialogue was Malaysia’s Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The SDD has grown into an international platform for integration and solidarity, delving deeply into various global issues. It has seen participation from 900 delegates from 64 countries, including ministerial-level representatives from eight nations.
