30/09/2024 05:36 PM

BANGKOK, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Some 600 public transport drivers in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket have been selected to attend English language training, organised by Thailand’s Department of Tourism, aimed at enhancing the skills of tourism personnel.

Department of Tourism director-general Jaturon Phakdeewanit said the English language skill development programme is designed to prepare and enhance the capabilities of tourism personnel, particularly public transport drivers, who play a crucial role in transporting tourists to their destinations.

"If public transport drivers can communicate effectively with international tourists, it will elevate the quality of service, create a positive impression, and provide a better overall experience for tourists.

"As these drivers often serve as the first point of contact for foreign visitors, their ability to communicate is essential," he said in a statement here on Monday.

The goal of the training is to improve drivers' English communication skills, enabling them to communicate accurately and raise the overall standard of service for tourists.
