INDONESIA

1. HOUSE LAWMAKERS END LESS-THAN-STELLAR TERM -- THE JAKARTA POST

Lawmakers concluded their final day in office with a plenary meeting on Monday, marking the end of a five-year term that critics say was marred by a recurring pattern of rushed deliberations and a lack of meaningful public participation.

 

2. IMMIGRATION OFFICERS TO CARRY FIREARMS FOLLOWING DUTY-RELATED DEATH -- JAKARTA GLOBE

The government has authorized immigration officers to carry firearms while on duty, following the death of an officer in the line of duty. This move comes after the House of Representatives passed an amendment to Law No. 6 of 2011 on Sept 19.

1. LAOS PM TELLS UN SDG TOPS ASEAN AGENDA -- VIENTIANE NEWS

Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone told the United Nations General Assembly that ASEAN is committed to the UN Sustainable Development Agenda and developing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 to make it more people-centric. Loas is the chair of ASEAN this year.

 

2. LAOS-CUBA WARM-UP BILATERAL RELATIONS -- VIENTIANE NEWS

Laos and Cuba supreme prosecutors reaffirmed their longstanding cooperation by reviewing the memorandum of understanding signed in 2018 in Cuba to further broaden ties. Both governments agreed to cooperate on a wide range of issues, including curbing cybercrime and human trafficking.

Vietnam aims to transform Da Nang into a major marine economic center of the country, an international coastal city and turn into a major tourist destination. The resource-rich and strategically located coastal city will be transformed into a smart city by 2045.

 

2. VIETNAM-MONGOLIA RENEW 70 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP -- VIETNAM NEWS

Vietnam and Mongolia will sign a comprehensive partnership pact to further deepen their bilateral cooperation that spans nearly 70 years. The partnership will expand cooperation in security, defence and law enforcement as well as in trade and investments.

Train services between Jurong East and Buona Vista MRT stations along the East-West Line have resumed since the start of passenger service on Oct 1, after extensive track damage downed train services for six days.

Train services between Jurong East and Buona Vista MRT stations resumed on Tuesday morning (Oct 1) after a six-day disruption.
