Indonesia's Anti-Terrorism Agency To Work With Police's Special Unit Under New Chief

JAKARTA, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Indonesia’s National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) is enhancing its counter-terrorism efforts by bolstering its collaboration with the police’s special unit, Densus 88.

Newly appointed BNPT chief Inspector-General Eddy Hartono has identified several key focus areas, including national preparedness, counter-radicalisation, and deradicalisation initiatives.

The two agencies will work together to develop indicators for assessing the level of terrorism threat.

“For deradicalisation to be effective, collaboration and synergy are crucial,” he stated in a statement, emphasising the importance of ensuring that the data and information produced are accurate and can help in future interventions.

He stressed the need for coordinated mapping of former terrorists’ categories with Densus 88, which will help establish comprehensive records for future programmes and prevent fragmented efforts.

Densus 88 chief Inspector-General Sentot Prasetyo echoed these sentiments, expressing optimism that the enhanced partnership would improve public safety.

He urged all personnel involved in counter-terrorism operations to maximise their efforts, particularly in light of the increasingly complex challenges they face.

Eddy officially took over the leadership of BNPT from Commissioner-General (Ret.) Mohammed Rycko Amelza Dahniel on Sept 18.

In his new role, he has committed to prioritising prevention initiatives to combat radical terrorism ideology, ensuring BNPT remains proactive in its efforts to tackle terrorism.
