Indonesian Air Force Sets Cyber Defence Plans For Next 20 Years

JAKARTA, Oct 9 (Bernama-ANTARA) -- The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) is committed to integrating cyber technology development into its long-term strategic plans for the next 20 years, said Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Tonny Harjono, reported ANTARA news agency.

"We are in the process of building the Air Force's posture for the next 20 years, including by considering technology development in four five-year Air Force Strategic Plans," he remarked when met at the Air Force's Headquarters in East Jakarta on Wednesday.

He emphasised that the TNI AU has begun paying closer attention to cyber technology, considering that the world has entered the era of cyber warfare.

Harjono explained that such a concept may refer to attacks targeted at non-traditional assets, such as information networks and government data or the dissemination of propaganda intended to take a country down unconventionally.

To actualise a formidable cyber posture by 2044, he affirmed that the TNI AU has identified short-term steps, with the first being preparing human resources equipped with adequate cyber defence knowledge.

Second, the marshal said his side would need to acquire or master more sophisticated facilities and technologies to fortify Indonesia's cyber defence.

"I am aware that keeping up with electronic developments is neither easy nor cheap. Thus, quite a large budget is required," he pointed out.

Outlining the final step, Harjono underscored that the Air Force would need a central body that would function as the main working platform for all its cyber defence talents.

The chief of staff expressed optimism that the TNI AL would be successful in achieving its cyber defence fortification goal by 2044 to ensure Indonesia's cybersecurity.
