KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- Across borders and far from home, the Malaysian Embassy in Berlin celebrated Hari Sukan Negara (HSN) 2024 with a vibrant array of activities, including the annual RENTAP Tournament.

In a statement, the Embassy of Malaysia in Berlin said this year’s 15th RENTAP Tournament, organised in collaboration with Public Service Department (JPA) Frankfurt, MARA Frankfurt, and the Malaysian-German Student Society (MGSS), from 5 to 6 October in Halle, is aimed at fostering sportsmanship and togetherness among Malaysian students in Germany.

Around 350 students and officials participated, enjoying a diverse range of sports and a Malaysian Food Bazaar, which fostered an atmosphere of camaraderie despite the cold weather.

“The competition serves as a venue for Malaysian students to unite and foster friendship and promote cultural exchange via sports. It helps maintain a sense of community and encourages healthy competition. Among the sports played every year are football, badminton, volleyball, frisbee and athletic events,” the statement read.

The tournament is primarily aimed at Malaysian students studying in German universities, but it is also open to other international students or locals who wish to participate, it added.

The embassy stated that a Malaysian Food Bazaar was also held during RENTAP 2024, which contributed to an air of festivities and satisfied the students’ longing for Malaysian food.

Meanwhile, Ambassador of Malaysia to Germany Datin Paduka Dr Adina Kamarudin,  in her remarks, highlighted that the event exemplifies a continuous move to develop students who excel both in academics and sports which serve as a conduit for reinforcing qualities such as discipline, collaboration, healthy competition and good sportsmanship.

Beside the RENTAP Tournament, the embassy said sports activities continued mid-week with its officials taking part in ASEAN Bowling Tournament organised under the ambit of Berlin ASEAN Committee on Oct 10 with 100 participants from 10 ASEAN countries. The programme ended with a fun walk by Embassy officials on Oct 11.

The sports activities provided a platform to gather and interact, and strengthen social ties and unity between Malaysians and students abroad, as well as with ASEAN colleagues. In addition, the activities cultivated a culture of sports and a healthy lifestyle among them, it added.
