Malaysian Delegation Congratulates Uzbekistan On Its Successful Election

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- Dewan Negara’s Deputy President Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who led the Malaysian delegation as international observers in Uzbekistan’s parliamentary elections held on Sunday, congratulated the country on the successful event. 

According to Uzbekistan’s National News Agency O’zbekiston Milliy axborot agentligi or UZA,  Nur Jazlan conveyed the congratulations during his visit to the Central Election Commission (CEC) in Tashkent on Tuesday. 

“CEC Chairman Zayniddin Nizamkhodjayev noted that an innovative approach was applied to the elections using electronic devices.

“The guests congratulated the Uzbekistan people on the successful elections,” the report read. 

The CEC in its posting on its webpage on Tuesday said the results of the elections were officially confirmed and parliamentary mandates were distributed among the political parties. 

According to the CEC, 150 deputies elected to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis are from the following political parties: Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen - the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (O‘zLiDeP) - 64 seats or 42.7 per cent; the “Milliy Tiklanish” (National Revival) Democratic Party of Uzbekistan - 29 seats or 19.3 per cent; the "Adolat" Social-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan - 21 seats or 14 per cent; the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (XDP) - 20 seats or 13.3 per cent; and the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan - 16 seats or 10.7 per cent.

On Monday, Nizamkhodjayev announced that 74.72 per cent or 15 million voters out of more than 19 million total number of voters in the republic voted on Sunday.

A total of 140,388  Uzbekistan citizens voted in 57 polling stations set up at diplomatic missions in 40 countries, he said. 

Six Malaysians were international observers in Uzbekistan’s Sunday election. 

Besides Nur Jazlan, they were  Chairman of Election Commission (EC) Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun,  Universiti Malaya’s Vice Chancellor/President Prof. Datuk Seri Ir Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman, Chairman of Malaysian Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS)  Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Faiz Abdullah, Kuching Member of Parliament who is also Head of Malaysia-Uzbekistan Inter Parliamentary Group Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen,  and EC’s Head of Programme (Voter Education) Election Academy Mohd Rizuan Md Drus.
