21/01/2025 05:05 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- Iran is keen to collaborate with Malaysia in the film industry to strengthen cooperation and understanding between the two countries, said the Embassy of Iran in Kuala Lumpur’s Cultural Counsellor, Dr Habibreza Arzani.

He said a group of Iranian filmmakers will visit Malaysia next month during the Iranian Film Festival to explore and discuss opportunities for collaboration with the Malaysian film industry or television stations.

“There are many similarities between Iranian and Malaysian cultures. Some Iranians have watched Malaysian movies and they find them beautiful. Therefore, we should integrate and collaborate in films,” he told reporters during a media conference at the Iranian Film Festival in Malaysia on Tuesday.

The Iranian Film Festival in Malaysia, which enters its third edition this year, will be held from Feb 20 to 23 at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) in Mid Valley and MyTown here, Penang and Johor Bahru.

Arzani in his speech said the Iran Film Festival is not just a celebration of cinema, it is a bridge that connects cultures, fosters understanding and highlights the rich artistic heritage of Iran.

Through the lens of Iranian cinema, audiences around the world can gain a deeper understanding of the complexities and beauty of Iranian culture, he added.

A total of five movies of various genres, including an animation titled Dolphin Boy, will be screened free to the public this time.

Other films are In The Arms of the Tree – a family drama; Fragrant – a narrative about identity and life’s responsibilities; Goodbye Shirazi Girl – a romantic tale, and Captain – a story about dreams and resilience amid challenges.

Information on the festival can be obtained from the Embassy of Iran in Malaysia’s Facebook page, the Iranian Cultural Centre’s Facebook page, the GSC website, and GSC’s social media platforms.

The Iranian Film Festival is organised by the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Iran in Kuala Lumpur with GSC International Screens and National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) as partners.

The festival was first held in 2018 and the second edition was held last year.
