LAOS

1. TWO DEAD IN LUANG PRABANG BOAT TRAGEDY -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

Luang Prabang authorities confirmed the death of a mother and her child, while the search for a second child is continuing in the Mekong River following a tourist boat tragedy last week. 

 

2. NATIONAL DAY AMNESTY FOR 1,000 PRISONERS -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

More than 1,000 prisoners will benefit from the government’s decision to reduce jail sentences and early release in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Lao National Day on December 2. The prisoners included 149 women and 48 foreign nationals.

 

MYANMAR 

1. GARMENT SECTOR NEEDS RAW MATERIAL -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Myanmar's garment sector has the potential to generate foreign revenue exceeding RM20 billion (US$5 billion) but lacks factories for raw material processing. Factories import zippers, buttons, and fabrics, resulting in outflow of foreign currency.

 

2. MORE NURSES JOINING PUBLIC HOSPITALS -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

About 2,000 healthcare workers, newly graduated nurses and 361 midwives, have joined the civil service this year, strengthening the public medical services. Another 1,700 nurses will be recruited early next year.

Hanoi will experiment with restricting heavy vehicles during peak hours to lessen traffic congestion. The movement of heavy trucks weighing 10 metric tonnes, container trucks and tractor-trailers will be barred on key routes. 

 

2. POWER LINES COMPLETED IN SIX MONTHS -- VIETNAMPLUS

The construction of the 500 kV Circuit 3 transmission line connecting Quang Trach and Pho Noi scored a major achievement. The 519-km network, cutting across nine provinces and comprising four sub-projects, was completed in just six months.
