CAMBODIA 

 

1.LNG POWER PLANT TO OPERATE BY YEAR END -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE

The initial phase of Cambodia’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plant, with a capacity of 900 megawatts, will be operational by the end of this year. The second phase is scheduled for operations in 2027.

 

2.SAUDI ARABIA EYES INVESTMENTS -- FRESH NEWS 

Cambodia and Saudi Arabia have expressed interest in enhancing bilateral ties and a business delegation will arrive later this year to explore trade opportunities in the Kingdom. The Saudi Chambers of Commerce will spearhead the trade visit.

1.INDONESIA TARGETS COMPLETION OF 6,900 BRIDGES IN REMOTE AREAS BY 2026 -- ANTARA

The Indonesian government aims to complete around 6,900 bridges by 2026, focusing on remote areas that still face limited access to river crossings.

 

2.PERTAMINA DISCOVERS NEW OIL WELL IN SUMATRA WITH 3,400 BPD POTENTIAL -- JAKARTA GLOBE

State-owned energy company Pertamina on Tuesday announced the discovery of a new oil well at the Adera Field in South Sumatra, with potential production reaching 3,442 barrels per day

The 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party on Tuesday announced the nation’s economic vision and its socialist agenda. The party aims to build an independent and self-reliant economy.

Lao is targeting annual economic growth of six per cent, per capita income of RM12,579 (US$3,104), inflation under five per cent, public debt of about 70 per cent of the gross domestic product and 70 per cent nationwide forest cover by 2030.

1.ASEAN SPECIAL ENVOY VISITS MYANMAR -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

The ASEAN Chair Special Envoy to Myanmar and the Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma Theresa P Lazaro led a delegation to Myanmar yesterday. Officials discussed ASEAN cooperation and diplomatic relations between Myanmar and the Philippines.

 

2.OVER 50 PER CENT VOTER TURNOUT -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

The government announced that voter turnout was 52.13 per cent during Phase I of the election held on December 28 last year. International observer groups, local and foreign media, witnessed the voting held at 102 townships.

Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas has set out a plan to steer the economy through the transition period before a new government takes office, saying the administration will rely on pre-approved “quick win” measures to sustain momentum and support growth towards 2% in 2026.

 

2.RULING ON PILOT TRAINING CHARGES CREATES LEGAL PRECEDENT -- BANGKOK POST

Over a dozen student pilots won a lawsuit against Nok Air regarding a requirement for additional training charges outside a contract for co-pilot employment, while the Court of Justice ordered compensation of one-third of 32.5 million baht in total damages.

Ho Chi Minh City is targeting an economic growth of over 10 per cent in 2026. The agriculture, industry, construction and services sectors are expected to drive the city’s robust growth this year. 

 

2.ROSY YEAR FOR AGRO-FORESTRY-FISHERY SECTOR  -- VIETNAMPLUS

Vietnam is targeting to earn RM300 billion (US$74 billion) from agro-forestry-aquatic exports this year. Restructuring of production, proactive trade promotion and optimal use of raw materials will help to drive the sector.
