CAIRO, Jan 12 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Egypt on Sunday signed an agreement with Norwegian firm Scatec to build a massive renewable energy complex, which the company said will be Africa’s largest combined solar and battery storage installation, reported Xinhua.
The "Energy Valley" project, located in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), includes a 1.95-gigawatt solar power plant and a 3.9-gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system, Scatec said in a press release.
It added that the project will be capable of delivering 24-hour-a-day clean electricity, generating an estimated 6,000 gigawatt-hours annually.
In a statement released by the Egyptian cabinet, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who attended the signing ceremony, said the project would significantly support Egypt's clean energy goals.
Separately, Madbouly inaugurated nine new industrial projects in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, including two factories for solar panel components, with a total investment of US$190 million.
