Prabowo Sees 'Board Of Peace' Charter As Step Towards Lasting Palestinian Peace

23/01/2026 04:53 PM

JAKARTA, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has described the signing of US President Donald Trump's ‘Board of Peace’ charter as a historic step, voicing hope it would ease conditions in Gaza and pave the way for a lasting resolution for Palestinians.

Prabowo said the initiative offered a genuine opportunity to advance peace efforts and further improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

“Clearly, the suffering of the people of Gaza has already been reduced,  significantly reduced. Humanitarian assistance is flowing in large volumes,” he said.

“I sincerely hope, and Indonesia is ready to take part, whoever seeks peace there and whoever wishes to help the people of Gaza and the Palestinian people,” he added.

Prabowo made the remarks after joining world leaders to sign the board’s founding document alongside Trump at the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday. Video footage of his remarks was shared on YouTube.

The charter was also signed by Hungary, Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Mongolia, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Sugiono said Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace represented a strategic, constructive and concrete step in supporting Palestinian independence and in seeking a near-term resolution to the conflict in Gaza.

He said Indonesia hoped the board’s formation would pave the way for the Rafah border crossing to reopen within a week to allow humanitarian aid through and for an International Stabilisation Force to be established.

“This forms part of the broader process aimed at achieving peace in Gaza,” he said in a video statement shared with the media on Friday.

Sugiono also reiterated Indonesia’s stance that a realistic two-state solution must take place.

“Palestinian independence and respect for Palestinian sovereignty are principles we have consistently upheld. The Board of Peace represents a concrete alternative at this time that we can hope will help realise these aspirations,” he said.
