LOS ANGELES, May 11 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- "The Devil Wears Prada 2", from 20th Century Studios, stayed atop the North American box office chart with an estimated three-day accumulated sales of US$43 million in its second weekend, data from measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday, reported Xinhua.
After 10 days in theaters, the comedy drama has grossed US$144.8 million in North America, bringing its worldwide total to US$433.2 million.
The sequel to the 2006 film "The Devil Wears Prada" reunites the original main cast with director David Frankel. Almost 20 years after their iconic performances, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway magazine in the film.
Warner Bros.'s martial arts fantasy film "Mortal Kombat II" opened in second place with US$40 million this weekend. The film based on a fighting arcade game also earned US$23 million internationally for a global weekend debut of US$63 million.
Rounding out the top three, Lionsgate's Michael Jackson biopic "Michael" took in US$36.5 million in its third weekend for a North American cumulative sales of US$240.49 million.
