Malaysia-EU Looking Into Steps To Resume Official FTA Negotiations – Tengku Zafrul

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and the European Union (EU) are looking into the next steps towards officially resuming negotiations on the Malaysia-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

In a post on X today, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said while some details still need to be finalised before negotiations can begin, he is confident that both parties will work to make this a reality, as the FTA will bring numerous economic benefits for Malaysia and the EU.

Earlier on, Tengku Zafrul held a virtual discussion with EU executive vice-president Valdis Dombrovskis to discuss the establishment of the FTA.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed Malaysia's interest in continuing discussions on the FTA with the EU during a bilateral meeting with European Council president Charles Michel, held on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits in Laos.

Anwar also shared his views regarding the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which has a direct impact on Malaysia's palm oil industry.
