BNM Issues Three Commemorative Coin Designs For Sale Until Dec 9

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has issued three different commemorative coin designs in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the Public Works Department (JKR), 50th anniversary of the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA), and the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China Diplomatic Relations (MCDR).

In a statement today, it said the commemorative coins will be issued in two denominations, namely Sterling Silver Commemorative Coin (proof) as well as Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U.) Commemorative Coin.

For the Sterling Silver Commemorative Coin, the central bank said the coin for JKR features a unique hexagon-shaped coin, Malaysia’s first – akin to the shape of JKR’s logo, made of sterling silver with 92.5 per cent purity and weighs 29.9 grammes.

“It has a face value of RM10. The coin is packed in a premium wooden box and is sold at RM440 per piece,” it said.

The commemorative coins for RISDA and MCDR are made of sterling silver with 92.5 per cent purity and weigh 31 grammes, in which each coin has a face value of RM10 and will be sold at RM330 per piece.

The mintage quantity is 1,000 pieces for each coin design.

Meanwhile, the Nordic Gold B.U. coin is made of copper and several other metals and weighs 8.5 grammes.

“The coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at RM16.50 per piece,” it said.

The mintage quantity is 5,000 pieces for each coin design.

BNM noted that these commemorative coins are also available for sale in sets of 2, comprising one coloured sterling silver proof coin and one Nordic gold proof coin.

The set of 2 for JKR will be sold at RM495, while the set of 2 for RISDA and MCDR will be sold at RM385 each.

A total of 1,000 sets per design will be available for purchase.

“To provide a fair opportunity for members of the public to buy these limited-edition coins, there will be a purchase limit for each design of one set of 2, one coloured sterling silver coin (proof) and up to five Nordic gold B.U. coins per person,” it said.

The public can place orders at duit.bnm.gov.my from today to 5 am on Dec 9, 2024.

The central bank advised the public to place their orders through BNM’s online system and not with or through any other party.
