LABUAN, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Neurogine Sdn Bhd and Indonesia’s national postal service, PT Pos Indonesia, have jointly introduced Neurogine nRemit, a mobile remittance service designed for the Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) community in Malaysia.
Neurogine’s chief executive officer Owen Chen Chee Onn said the partnership aims to address the economic and social needs of Indonesian workers in Malaysia, many of whom send regular remittances home.
“This contributes to Indonesia’s economy and improves the lives of their families,” he told Bernama today.
Neurogine was appointed Pos Indonesia’s technology partner and remittance enablement representative in Malaysia in November 2023.
The rollout of Neurogine nRemit will occur in three phases: first in Sabah and Sarawak, followed by Kuala Lumpur, and finally in Johor Bahru and Penang.
Chen said the service, now integrated into Pos Indonesia’s Pospay mobile app, was developed in collaboration with QQ Pay Sdn Bhd, a licensed Money Services Business operator in Malaysia. This partnership enhances Neurogine’s digital financial services in Malaysia.
Key stakeholders, including the Embassy of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur and various consulates and labour associations, have been briefed on the initiative, he said emphasising the importance of stakeholder support in ensuring a smooth rollout.
"The service allows users to transfer money from 20 participating banks and six eWallets in Malaysia to Pospay accounts, enabling real-time remittances. Organisations employing PMIs can also use the platform to remit funds in bulk on behalf of their workers," he noted.
Chen also highlighted that transactions comply with Malaysia’s financial regulations, ensuring secure and cost-effective transfers.
Pos Indonesia’s chief executive officer Faizal Rochmad Djoemadi described the partnership as a significant step in the company’s journey to becoming a leading non-bank financial services provider in the Asia-Pacific region by 2026.
He said since its 2018 launch, Pospay has amassed over five million registered users, with daily activity reaching 380,000 users.
Faizal shared that the service caters to the needs of over 12 million Indonesian workers abroad, including approximately 2.7 million in Malaysia, who can register for Pospay using their unique 16-digit Population Identification Number.
The Malaysia-Indonesia remittance corridor is one of the largest globally, reflecting the cultural and geographical ties between the two nations. Major PMI population clusters in Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, and Kuala Lumpur will be the focus of the initial rollout.
The partnership was unveiled at a launch event in Jakarta, attended by Pos Indonesia’s senior vice president Zuhed Nur, and other senior executives.
As a state-owned enterprise, Pos Indonesia plays a pivotal role in Indonesia’s economic development and operates under the oversight of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises.
Faizal expressed pride in the partnership, highlighting its alignment with the Indonesian government’s social and economic objectives under President Prabowo Subianto.
The service offers a flat fee of RM10 per transaction, enabling PMIs to pay utility bills, and school fees, invest in gold, or withdraw cash at Pos Indonesia agents or ATMs across Indonesia’s extensive network.
With this innovative and reliable remittance solution, Neurogine and Pos Indonesia aim to enhance the financial well-being of Indonesian migrant workers and their families, further strengthening the economic ties between Malaysia and Indonesia.
