Bursa Malaysia Pares Loss As Banking And Telecom Stocks Recover

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia pared losses mid-afternoon as telecom and banking counters continued their mild recovery.

At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) dipped 1.20 points to 1,589.71 compared with Friday’s close of 1,590.91.

The benchmark index opened 3.26 points lower at 1,587.65 and moved between 1,584.20 and 1,590.20 during the morning session.

On the broader market, decliners outpaced gainers 567 to 315, with 463 counters unchanged, 985 untraded and 22 suspended.

Turnover totalled 2.24 billion units worth RM1.1 billion. 

Axiata led the gainers among the heavyweight stocks, gaining six sen to RM2.27, followed by Maybank, which rose two sen to RM10.44, while Petronas Gas added 12 sen to RM17.60. In contrast, MISC lost 15 sen to RM7.23, SD Guthrie dropped nine sen to RM4.82 and YTL Power erased six sen to RM3.38.

Among the active counters, Borneo Oil and TWL were flat at one sen and 2.5 sen, respectively, while the newly listed Colform Group bounced 4.0 sen to 40 sen, Capital A lost 5.5 sen to 85.5 sen and Asia Poly added 2.5 sen to 15 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index shed 21.36 points to 12,128.17, the FBMT 100 Index slid 20.59 points to 11,819.47 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index was 35.36 points lower at 11,950.28.

The FBM ACE Index erased 41.43 points to 5,218.92 and the FBM 70 Index fell 77.01 points to 17,956.52.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index added 16.84 points to 19,250.28 and the Energy Index climbed 1.42 points to 827.86. The Industrial Products and Services Index dipped 0.43 points to 166.08 and the Plantation Index dropped 20.96 points to 7,432.94.
