ICW, BuildXpo 2025 Aims To Reach RM700 Mln In Sales This Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- Following a successful year generating RM654 million in sales, the International Construction Week (ICW) and the Malaysia International Building and Construction Industry Exhibition (BuildXpo) 2025 aim to achieve a projected sales target of at least RM700 million this year.

Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia chairman Yusuf Abd Wahab said that there were 175 exhibitors and 315 exhibition booths from nine countries at last year's ICW.

“This year, we anticipate around 200 exhibitors; the final number is yet to be confirmed, but we are targeting an increase compared to last year,” he said.

Yusuf spoke to reporters after the soft launch of ICW, officiated by the Ministry of Works secretary-general Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim at the Malaysia Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).

Also present at the soft launch was CIDB's chief executive officer Zainora Zainal.

“This year marks a significant milestone, as it is the 27th edition of ICW, which has played a crucial role in industry transformation by addressing key challenges and promoting innovation, best practices, and sustainability across the sector.

“ICW and BuildXpo will serve as key platforms for advancing regional development, economic integration, and infrastructure growth,” Yusuf added.

BuildXpo 2025 will showcase a wide array of industry-leading products, services, and solutions, including cutting-edge construction technologies, advanced machinery and automation, industrialised building systems (IBS), smart building solutions, innovative construction materials, and digital tools.

Yusuf highlighted that a major feature of ICW & BuildXpo 2025 is the International Sourcing Programme, organised in collaboration with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

“This initiative will connect buyers from around the globe, providing exhibitors the chance to showcase their offerings to international markets, facilitating global business growth and market expansion.

“More than just a trade exhibition, BuildXpo acts as a catalyst for industry growth, serving as a dynamic platform for business networking, brand exposure, and meaningful collaborations,” he stated.

Additionally, Azman announced that ICW will expand for the first time to include ICW Borneo 2025, scheduled for May 13 to 14 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

This edition will focus on the theme "Innovative Construction for a Sustainable Future", emphasising the rapid development in Sarawak, Sabah, and throughout Borneo.

“This will include mega construction projects that drive sustainable development goals for Malaysia and ASEAN, focusing on major infrastructure projects and renewable energy solutions to accelerate economic growth in East Malaysia.

“This dedicated edition will play a crucial role in fostering regional development and strengthening Malaysia’s construction sector at both national and ASEAN levels, building a resilient and future-ready industry,” he said.

Zainora said that BuildXpo 2025 is targeting 15,000 visitors, including industry professionals and traders such as contractors and engineers, with participants from countries including China, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Vietnam, and more.

Hosted by the Ministry of Works, organised by CIDB Malaysia, and managed by Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd, ICW & BuildXpo 2025 will feature 350 booths showcasing innovative construction technologies, materials, and solutions.

Themed “Constructing the Future of ASEAN”, this event is particularly significant as Malaysia will assume the ASEAN chairmanship in 2025.

ICW and BuildXpo 2024 will be held from Oct 22 to 24 at MITEC and is supported by CIDB e-Construct, CIDB IBS, CIDB Tech, the Construction Labour Exchange Centre Bhd (CLAB), Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM), and the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).
