BARCELONA (SPAIN), March 6 (Bernama) — Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its ties with the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSMA) organisation, exploring ways to strengthen their partnership in the telecommunications sector.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, in her latest social media posting, said the bilateral meeting held with GSMA on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2025 focused on expanding collaboration between Malaysia and the global organisation. “GSMA also acknowledged the continued presence of the Malaysia Pavilion at MWC Barcelona for two consecutive years, highlighting our steadfast commitment to supporting the growth of the telecommunications industry both locally and internationally,” she said.

Teo, who is on a two-day working visit to Spain, said the meeting also covered pressing issues related to digital trust, including the growing threats posed by scams and other malicious cyber activities.  Both parties stressed the need for a collaborative approach to address these challenges effectively.

“We emphasised the importance of shared responsibility and collaboration in tackling these challenges and ensuring a secure digital future for all. I look forward to the continued development of this partnership and the positive impact it will have on the global telecommunications landscape,” she added.

GSMA is the host of MWC Barcelona 2025 - the world’s largest mobile industry event, bringing together key players in telecommunications to showcase innovations, discuss industry trends, and foster global partnerships.

The 19th edition in Barcelona this year saw the Malaysia Pavilion showcasing the country's technological advancements and its role in driving progress through 5G deployment, digital infrastructure, and collaborative innovation in the ASEAN region.
