JG Sarava's RM10 Mln Pineapple Canning Factory In Sarawak To Begin Operations Next Year

SIBU, May 26 (Bernama) -- A cutting-edge pineapple processing plant to process and produce canned pineapple products for export is scheduled to be built in Tanjung Manis, Mukah Division, Sarawak, and is expected to be completed by early next year.

JG Sarava Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Jeyaran Sri Ramalu said the proposed construction of the factory, estimated to cost around RM10 million, has attracted interest from investors in China, with most of the machinery for the plant to be imported from there.

“This factory can process up to 50 tonnes of pineapples per shift per day. This amount can be increased depending on the supply of pineapples,” he told reporters here today.

JG Sarava is involved in agricultural development, specifically in Sarawak’s pineapple industry.

Earlier, Jeyaran delivered a briefing on the pineapple cultivation project at several locations in Sarawak and the plan to build the processing factory in Tanjung Manis to an investor delegation from India and Canada, in conjunction with the Sarawak Pineapple Industry Development Conference 2025 held here.

He said that pineapple production in Sarawak is currently still low, around 10 to 15 tonnes per day, and needs to be increased to ensure the factory can operate at full capacity.

Jeyaran said JGS is currently implementing a pineapple-oil palm intercropping project covering an area of 12,000 hectares in Sarawak, which is scheduled for completion within five years. As of last year, approximately 404 hectares have been planted with pineapples.

He said investors have responded positively to the project, and following initial discussions, they have come to Sarawak to see the progress achieved for themselves.

“We first established the platform and then invited international investors to witness the development of the pineapple industry in Sarawak. From the beginning, they have shown confidence in our efforts,” he said.

Jeyaran also announced that preparations are underway to open another factory to process pineapple-based products, particularly pineapple juice, in Bintangor, Sarikei Division, which is expected to begin operations within the next two months.

He added that the company is also in the laboratory testing phase for a new energy drink product combining pineapple and tongkat ali, and is currently awaiting approval from the Ministry of Health.
