Petronas Unveils Support Programme For Staff Affected By Workforce Reduction

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 (Bernama) --  Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has introduced a comprehensive transition programme to support employees affected by a planned workforce reduction as the company undertakes a major strategic transformation to future-proof its operations and remain competitive in a changing global energy landscape.

The programme offers a wide range of support, including market-competitive separation packages, career coaching, job search assistance, emotional support services, medical aid, upskilling and reskilling opportunities, and financial planning guidance.

Benefits will be tailored based on years of service, employee category and eligibility, the company said.

“All decisions are made with fairness, respect, and professionalism,” the company said.

Meanwhile, to manage the process, Petronas has established a Transition Council and People Development Committees to oversee talent mapping and placement decisions through structured platforms.

The company also said it had engaged with the Department of Labour and the Department of Industrial Relations under the Human Resources Ministry to ensure full compliance with statutory requirements.

Petronas said it is also working with the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) via MyFutureJobs to identify potential job opportunities for eligible affected employees in other sectors. It is also in discussions with government-linked companies to facilitate possible redeployment.

In addition, employees interested in entrepreneurship will have access to the Petronas Innovation Garage, which provides a guided pathway into business ownership.

On June 5, Petronas announced that it will cut about 10 per cent of its workforce in a firm-wide restructuring as the company looks to reduce costs due to falling crude prices and market volatility that has impacted its profits.
