Malaysia-ARM Collaboration Expected To Deliver Return On Investment Within 10 Years

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (Bernama) – The collaboration between Malaysia and global technology company ARM Ltd is expected to yield a return on investment (ROI) within ten years, according to the Ministry of Economy.

The ministry stated that the return includes helping to increase the export value of electrical and electronics products to RM865.9 billion by 2030, compared to RM601.2 billion in 2024.

"This collaboration will also help increase the value-added of the electrical and electronics subsector to RM157.2 billion by 2030, compared to RM115.5 billion in 2024," it said in a written response published on the parliament’s website on Tuesday. The ministry made the statement in response to a question from Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew, who asked about the targeted ROI for the investment in Arm Holdings Plc and the expected timeframe to achieve it.

In addition, the Ministry of Economy said the collaboration will train 10,000 local engineers in complex integrated circuit design technology among engineering graduates and young local engineers through targeted training programmes, as well as 100 engineers in research and development activities related to integrated circuit design.

The committed investment value for this collaboration amounted to US$225 million under the Semiconductor Industry Cooperation Agreement between the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and ARM Ltd, signed on March 3, 2025.
