Singapore's Trident Spotlighted For Transforming Digital Identity In Africa

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- Singapore-based Trident Digital Tech Holdings Ltd (Trident) took centre stage at the Africa Singapore Business Forum 2025, earning praise from Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu, for its pioneering role in bridging Africa’s digital divide.

In her keynote address, Minister Fu highlighted the company’s partnership with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to roll out a nationwide digital identity system known as DRC Pass.

Fu hailed it as a model for Singapore-Africa collaboration, benefitting over 110 million DRC citizens by enabling financial inclusion and improving public services.

The recognition comes two months after Trident signed a public-private partnership agreement with the DRC government to launch the country’s national digital identification system, making the company the exclusive provider of electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) services.

According to Trident in a statement, the DRC Pass represents Africa’s most ambitious Web 3.0 digital identity deployment and focuses on four applications, namely biometric-blockchain SIM card registration, seamless single-sign-on access to government and business portals, one-click digital payments, and centralised digital citizen identity credentials.

Trident Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Soon Huat Lim said the project underlined the importance of Singapore-Africa collaboration.

“We are proud of our partnership with the DRC government and appreciate Minister Fu’s recognition. We believe this work will open even more doors between the nations,” he said.

The system is powered by Trident’s Tridentity blockchain-based identity platform, enabling citizens to download a mobile application to securely access approved services through single-sign-on technology.

Industry data from GSMA Intelligence indicates that the DRC’s more than 80 million mobile subscribers and growing banked population stand to benefit directly from the secure e-KYC services.

The DRC Pass is currently being rolled out in phases alongside a public education campaign to ensure widespread adoption across the country.
