Malaysia To Promote Shared Agenda Of Regional Prosperity As ASEAN Chair - PMO

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) – Malaysia, as ASEAN chair at the summit next month, will focus on geopolitical issues but more so on the region’s shared agenda to emerge as a global economic power, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) today.

The Prime Minister’s senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said this agenda includes strengthening economic cooperation, attracting strategic investments, expanding trade, and accelerating regional integration.

“ASEAN must speak with one voice, seizing opportunities with all dialogue partners – not only the United States (US), but also China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

“This is the leadership that Malaysia offers – one that upholds the principles of universal justice, remains steadfast in defending Palestine, and at the same time shoulders the major responsibility as ASEAN chair to build a prosperous, stable and thriving region.

“The MADANI Government will ensure that the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur is proof that Malaysia is capable of leading with wisdom and integrity – boldly defending the oppressed, steadfastly championing the people’s interests, and wisely balancing global diplomacy,” he said at the PMO’s daily briefing broadcast live on Facebook here.

The 47th ASEAN Summit will take place in the capital from October 26-28.
