U Mobile Signs First 5G, 4G Wholesale Access Agreement With Eastel

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- U Mobile Sdn Bhd has signed its first 5G and 4G wholesale access agreement with Eastel, a new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) from Anchor Communications Sdn Bhd.

In a joint statement today, the parties said the five-year agreement marks U Mobile’s first 5G and 4G wholesale access deal.

“It will see U Mobile providing its next-generation 5G infrastructure and 4G network for data, voice and SMS services, as well as support for International Direct Dial (IDD), roaming and mobile number portability services,” they said.

U Mobile deputy chief executive officer Kenneth Chang said the partnership marks the beginning of more 5G wholesale agreements, especially as the company’s 5G network expansion is expected to reach 80 per cent coverage of populated areas (CoPA) by the second half of next year.

“With an award-winning 4G and next-generation 5G network, we look forward to enabling more opportunities for telco players to tap into our advanced and future-proofed infrastructure, as well as operational expertise.

“This move also underscores our commitment to support the nation’s digital economy through greater market diversity and competition,” he said.

Meanwhile, Eastel executive director Aaron Lee said the company aims to support more niche and customisable data-intensive applications for the community by leveraging U Mobile Sdn Bhd’s ultra-fast 5G and 4G network.

“Together with U Mobile, we look forward to building a stronger, more connected Malaysia,” he said.

Eastel, which is licensed under the Application Service Provider (ASP) and Network Service Provider (NSP) categories by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, is scheduled to launch commercially in the first quarter of 2026.
