PM Anwar Departs For South Korea To Attend APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has departed for South Korea this Thursday to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting.

“The MADANI Diplomatic Mission continues to Gyeongju, South Korea to participate in the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting,” he said on his social media page.

This meeting is an important platform to strengthen regional economic cooperation networks, expand fair trade, and strengthen the sustainability and global prosperity agenda, said Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister.

“Please pray for the Malaysian delegation’s travel to be smooth and for a successful mission.”

APEC 2025 will be held in South Korea’s southeastern coastal city of Gyeongju. This is the second time South Korea has hosted the APEC meeting after the first in 2005.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who are already in Gyeongju, are representing Malaysia at the ministerial-level meetings.

The theme for APEC 2025 is “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow” with South Korea focusing on advancing regional trade, artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability, including ministerial-level meetings that will discuss topics such as health, the digital economy and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Malaysia last hosted APEC in 2020 in its first virtual format following the COVID-19 pandemic.
