MHIT Receives Encouraging Feedback Ahead Year-end Finalisation

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- The base Medical and Health Insurance/Takaful (MHIT) product design and concept, which is expected to be finalised by the end of this year, has received encouraging feedback from members of the consultative council.

The positive feedback also came from insurance and takaful associations, doctors and specialists from private hospitals, medical associations, academia, and consumer groups, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) said in its social media posting on the second Joint Ministerial Committee on Private Healthcare Costs (JMCPHC) meeting on Oct 29, 2025.

Designed to promote value-based healthcare, the product also aims to help manage rising medical inflation costs, making private healthcare insurance more accessible and sustainable for all Malaysians.

“During the meeting, Datuk Jessica Chew, who chairs the JMCPHC Steering Committee, shared key progress on the development of the MHIT product, which is currently undergoing a consultative process,” said BNM.

The meeting was co-chaired by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, where both ministers reaffirmed the importance of collaborative action across all key stakeholders to drive meaningful healthcare reform and ensure long-term affordability.
