Ethiopia Seen As Gateway For Malaysian Products Into Africa — Tengku Zafrul

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia sees Ethiopia as a strategic gateway for the country's products to enter the African market, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

In a post on X, he said the assessment was made following a meeting between the Malaysian delegation led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali, during which both countries agreed to strengthen bilateral trade relations.

"We see Ethiopia as a strategic gateway for Malaysian products to the African continent, while Malaysia is a gateway for Ethiopian products to the ASEAN market," he said.

Tengku Zafrul said the main areas of cooperation include the halal industry, which offers great potential for Malaysian halal food and beverage exports, as well as products like palm oil.

"We are also exploring opportunities to import high-quality coffee, oilseeds and horticultural products from Ethiopia.

"The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry is committed to supporting the strengthening of this bilateral trade relationship," he added.
