More Bumiputera Businesses Should Tap Into High-value Sectors, Says Deputy Minister
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- The government hopes to see greater participation from the Bumiputera business community in high-value sectors such as digital technology and green innovation.
Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said that to realise this ambition, young Bumiputera talents must continue to be empowered with globally competitive skills and strong, credible leadership.
At the same time, he said collaboration between Bumiputera companies, large corporations and international partners must be further strengthened, adding that the government remains committed to fostering a business ecosystem that upholds excellence and integrity.
“We will continue to expand access to financing and venture capital for growing enterprises, strengthen export facilitation and international market linkages, and accelerate the adoption of digital and ESG (environmental, social and governance) practices to enhance competitiveness.
“The government will also simplify regulatory processes to reduce the cost and complexity of doing business,” he said when officiating the Bumiputera Business Excellence Awards 2025 (BBEA 2025) here today.
Also present were Tengku Sri Temenggong Raja Terengganu Datuk Seri Tengku Baharuddin Sultan Mahmud, BBEA chairman Datuk Dr Muhamad Iqbal Mohamad and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
Akmal Nasrullah said efforts to increase Bumiputera participation in high-value sectors are in line with Malaysia’s vision to build a dynamic, competitive and globally integrated Bumiputera economic ecosystem.
“Bumiputera entrepreneurs today are not only key drivers of the domestic economy, but are also contributing to our country’s regional and global future.
“Bumiputera businesses are an important pillar of the country’s economic structure, creating jobs, building industries and forming the backbone of the domestic supply chain - all with the broader goal of ensuring shared prosperity.
“In addition, opportunities must be distributed fairly so that development does not leave any Malaysian behind,” he said.
He said the success of Bumiputera entrepreneurs, particularly in the technology, manufacturing, services, agriculture and energy sectors, reflects an inclusive and competitive Malaysia that remains rooted in its identity while embracing a global vision.
