Japan's Contact Lens Manufacturer Menicon Opens Kulim Plant

KULIM, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Japanese contact lens manufacturer Menicon Co Ltd has opened its manufacturing plant today, further strengthening Malaysia-Japan strategic bilateral ties.

Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin said Japan has been one of Malaysia's most important investment partners for decades.

“Menicon’s decision to expand its largest facility here further strengthens this strategic relationship.

“This project also shows Japan’s level of trust in Malaysia’s stability, employment potential, and industrial readiness,” he said during the Menicon Malaysia Opening Ceremony at Kulim Hi-Tech Park here today.

The text of his speech was read by Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) executive director Mohd Riduan Abdul Rahman.

Also present was Kedah Human Resources, Chinese, Indian, Siamese and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) Committee chairman Wong Chia Zhen, who represented Kedah Menteri Besar.

Sim said the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, through MIDA and related agencies, would continue to provide support to ensure the company’s future growth.

“I believe Menicon Malaysia will continue to grow as a major contributor to this country’s medical ecosystem and as a valuable trading partner in Malaysia’s economic transformation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wong said Menicon’s investment of more than RM1 billion in the state is significant.

“In the long term, such investments would boost income value and improve the quality of life for the people in Kedah.

“Hence, the state government is committed to supporting high-quality investors like Menicon,” he said.
