CAAM Records Improved OTP During Hari Raya Travel Period

PUTRAJAYA, April 17 (Bernama) -- The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) recorded steady and improved On-Time Performance (OTP) across Malaysian air travel during the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri travel period, reflecting effective operational coordination and enhanced air navigation services.

CAAM said the strong performance contributed to a smooth travel experience nationwide, with no major disruptions recorded and the majority of passengers arriving safely and on time at their destinations during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

It said the assessment, covering March 18 to 28, showed that most flights departed within 15 minutes of their scheduled time, with notable improvements observed particularly at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2.

"During this high-demand festive season, CAAM played a critical role in facilitating smooth air traffic flow and supporting airlines in managing increased passenger volumes.

"Among the key measures implemented were the approval of approximately 300 additional flights and the optimisation of runway utilisation through a dedicated runway allocation to enhance aircraft movement efficiency," the statement said.

CAAM said these proactive measures contributed to improved operational conditions, enabling better turnaround times and minimising congestion, particularly during peak travel periods.

"While increased flight frequencies presented operational challenges, overall OTP performance remained resilient.

"Several operators maintained performance above the industry benchmark of 85 per cent, particularly for flights departing from airports outside Kuala Lumpur, which recorded comparatively stronger punctuality levels," it said.

CAAM said analysis of delay factors indicated that the majority were attributed to operational and extraordinary circumstances, which are typical during peak travel seasons.

"Despite these challenges, the coordinated efforts between CAAM and industry stakeholders ensured that disruptions were effectively managed," the statement said.

CAAM said its Air Navigation Services (ANS) were instrumental in ensuring safe, orderly and efficient air traffic flow through strategic airspace management, real-time traffic coordination and enhanced surveillance capabilities.

"The improved OTP performance during the Hari Raya period underscores CAAM’s continued commitment to enhancing the overall passenger experience.

"By enabling smoother operations and reducing delays, these efforts contributed to more reliable travel schedules, allowing passengers to reach their destinations with greater certainty and convenience during one of the busiest travel periods of the year," it added.
