Kioxia Launches BG8 Series Solid State Drives For Mainstream Applications

KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) -- Kioxia Corporation, a leader in memory solutions, has unveiled the KIOXIA BG8 Series solid state drives (SSDs), the next evolution of its client SSD lineup designed for personal computer (PC) original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers.

The BG8 Series brings PCIe 5.0 performance to the mainstream segment, combining higher speed and improved power efficiency for slim laptops, commercial and consumer notebooks, and desktop systems.

According to Kioxia in a statement, the BG8 Series delivers up to 47 per cent higher sequential read performance, 67 per cent higher sequential write performance, 44 per cent higher random read performance, and 30 per cent higher random write performance compared to the previous generation.

It offers sequential read speeds of up to 10,300 megabytes per second (MB/s) and sequential write speeds of up to 10,000 MB/s, along with random read and write performance of up to 1.4 million and 1.3 million input/output operations per second (IOPS), respectively.

The DRAM-less KIOXIA BG8 Series supports a Host Memory Buffer (HMB) feature, which leverages host system memory to balance performance, power consumption and cost.

Designed for flexibility, the SSDs are available in multiple M.2 form factors, namely Type 2230, Type 2242 and Type 2280, supporting a wide range of system designs and mounting requirements.

The BG8 Series also supports PCIe 5.0 (Gen5 x4) and NVMe 2.0d; self-encrypting drive (SED) functionality based on TCG Opal version 2.02; and capacities of 512 gigabytes (GB), 1,024 GB and 2,048 GB.

Kioxia said the BG8 Series is currently sampling to select PC OEM customers, with shipments expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
