KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) -- JBL, the audio brand of HARMAN, is marking its 80th anniversary, celebrating eight decades of audio innovation and cultural impact across professional, consumer and entertainment markets.

Founded in 1946 by engineer James B. Lansing, JBL has played a defining role in shaping modern sound, from recording studios and cinemas to global music festivals. The brand’s systems have powered landmark cultural events, including Woodstock and Tomorrowland, reinforcing its long-standing association with live sound and entertainment.

Today, JBL remains a global leader in personal audio, with hundreds of millions of users worldwide and a strong presence in professional audio, including cinema, stadium and studio sound systems.

“For 80 years, JBL’s engineering legacy has been the benchmark for high-fidelity audio, and that standard lives in every JBL product made today.

“As we celebrate this milestone, JBL remains committed to carrying this standard forward in the technologies that will power the next generation of sound and culture,” said HARMAN Lifestyle Division President, Dave Rogers in a statement.

Over its history, JBL has developed widely recognised audio technologies across loudspeakers, portable audio, smart sound systems and professional solutions, earning industry honours including Academy Awards for sound engineering and a Grammy Award for technical innovation in audio production.

Looking ahead, JBL is investing in next-generation audio technologies, including spatial audio, adaptive soundscapes and immersive listening experiences, alongside a stronger focus on sustainability in product design and manufacturing.
