Shah Alam Sports Complex Project Value Remains At RM2.94 Bln
SHAH ALAM, May 5 (Bernama) -- The Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) development is proceeding as planned with the committed value remaining at RM2.94 billion despite concerns over potential cost increase following the global supply crisis.
Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI) chief executive officer Datuk Saipolyazan M Yusop said that there has not been any official request from the contractor for a price review or adjustment, thus keeping the project’s committed value unchanged.
“Yes, there are rumours that the cost may increase, but to date, we have not received any request and we are maintaining the original contract sum.
“Typically, contracts like these involve many elements, and when diesel prices rise, construction materials often follow suit, creating a domino effect on other costs along the supply chain,” he told reporters after attending the launch of the Public Works Department (JKR) headquarters complex in Section 17, Shah Alam, held in conjunction with the Gagasan Rumpun Selangor 2026 programme today.
Saipolyazan said MBI is monitoring the current situation, including tensions in West Asia that can impact the global economy, but the project’s target completion remains in May 2029.
“As of now, we are sticking to our original (construction) schedule from 2026 until May 2029. We hope that what is happening in the Middle East will not have an impact.
“When we sign the definitive project construction contract (encompassing design, construction, commissioning and maintenance components) and so on, we will begin further works at an accelerated phase to meet the set timeline,” he said.
On site progress, he explained that work is progressing as per schedule, although physical changes to the main structure are not yet clearly visible to the public.
According to him, the KSSA redevelopment project has achieved an initial progress of 9.16 per cent, involving site preparation works such as hoarding installation as well as cut and fill activities.
It was reported in May last year, Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd’s indirect subsidiary Lembaran Prospek Sdn Bhd signed a letter of acceptance from MBI for the construction and completion of KSSA valued at RM2.94 billion.
Centred around a 45,000-capacity stadium with a retractable pitch, the project will integrate community, commerce, and infrastructure across a 310,000 square metre green flora sanctuary.
