ASEAN Needs Practical Oil Stockpiling Framework -- Johari Ghani

From Niam Seet Wei

CEBU (Phillippines), May 7 (Bernama) -- ASEAN needs to work towards a practical framework for oil stockpiling to enhance the region’s long-term energy security and preparedness, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

Johari, who attended the 27th ASEAN Economic Community Council Meeting here today, said that was among the key issues he discussed with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong today.

“We exchanged views on the importance of ASEAN member states playing a more proactive and practical role in strengthening regional economic resilience and energy security,” he said in a statement today.

Johari said they also discussed current regional economic developments as well as the growing impact of geopolitical tensions on global trade and supply chains.

“Malaysia and Singapore share a close and strategic economic relationship.

“I believe stronger regional cooperation and pragmatic approaches will remain essential in ensuring ASEAN continues to stay resilient, competitive, and relevant amid an increasingly challenging global landscape,” he added.
