KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian REIT Managers Association (MRMA) has appointed Sunway REIT Management Sdn Bhd chief executive officer and executive director Derek Teh Wan Wei as the chairman of the association during its annual general meeting (AGM) recently.

MRMA said the appointment follows the completion of the tenure of former chairman Leong Kit May of Axis REIT Managers Bhd, who held the position from June 3, 2024, to June 11, 2026.

Teh said as the unified voice of Malaysia’s REIT managers, MRMA will represent members’ interests by working closely with the government and regulators for functional regulations, viable structures and tax harmonisation. “We will also encourage and promote the REIT industry to position M-REITs as a recognized income asset class for Malaysian and international investors, and to strengthen M-REIT competitiveness regionally and internationally,” he said in a statement.

MRMA said the AGM also saw the re-election of  Zuhairy Md Isa from AmREIT Managers Sdn Bhd as their vice chairman, alongside the newly elected vice chairman Yong Su Lin from CapitaLand Malaysia REIT Management Sdn Bhd.

It said Datuk Stewart Labrooy of Alpha REIT Managers Sdn Bhd was re-elected as honorary secretary while Hafidz Atrash Kosai Mohd Zihim from Pelaburan Hartanah Nasional Bhd will continue his term as honorary treasurer for a second year.
