SIC, DC Union Ink Deal To Build RM2.5 Bln Data Centre In Cyberjaya
SHAH ALAM, June 23 (Bernama) -- The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), through its subsidiary, Selangor Industrial Corporation Sdn Bhd (SIC), has signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with Data Centre Union Sdn Bhd (DC Union) to develop a high-tech data centre in Cyberjaya.
SIC group chief executive officer (CEO) Saharom Mohni said the RM2.5 billion project, which will be managed by SIC Quantum Data Centre Sdn Bhd, has the potential to drive Selangor’s digital economy growth and strengthen the nation’s artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem.
“This strategic collaboration marks a significant achievement for the PKNS Group as it ventures into the digital economy sector, which offers tremendous future growth potential.
“The partnership positions SIC as a strategic partner supporting the development of the state’s digital infrastructure by applying internationally recognised industry standards,” he said after signing the JVA at the PKNS Headquarters here, today.
Meanwhile, Saharom said the 65-megawatt project will be equipped with full immersion cooling technology to improve energy efficiency, besides supporting Selangor’s smart state agenda through the provision of secure, efficient, and highly resilient digital infrastructure.
“This high-impact project also includes initiatives to establish a Sovereign AI Command Centre and a Centre of Excellence, specifically aimed at empowering the nation’s AI capabilities while enhancing data security standards.
“In addition, the company has set a target of producing at least 500 NVIDIA-certified engineers annually to meet market demand in cloud computing and address the shortage of skilled talent,” he said.
Meanwhile, DC Union CEO Yeep Teck Ann said that, as part of its long-term plans, the company has allocated an additional RM4.8 billion specifically for the development of a high-performance AI computing centre facility (AI Factory) to support machine learning operations.
He said the rapid advancement of AI technology worldwide has propelled demand for digital infrastructure at an unprecedented rate.
“Malaysia has a tremendous golden opportunity to emerge as the most prominent and influential AI hub and digital infrastructure centre in Southeast Asia.
“Our main vision is not just focused on developing physical infrastructure, but also placing deep emphasis on building a comprehensive digital ecosystem that supports local talent development and strategic collaboration,” he said.
In this regard, Yeep expressed hope that the collaboration with the Selangor State Government, PKNS, and SIC will further strengthen Malaysia’s competitiveness as a technology centre and respected AI hub in the region.
