Gold Futures Close Lower Ahead of US PCE Data Release

By Danni Haizal Danial Donald

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- Gold futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives extended their losses to close lower on Wednesday as investors remain cautious ahead of the United States Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation data release tomorrow.

SPI Asset Management managing partner Stephen Innes said the precious metal continues to track broader risk sentiment, rising and falling in tandem with shifts in investor risk appetite.

“For now, the yellow metal is largely sidelined as market participants await the US PCE inflation report, a key data release that is likely to provide clearer direction for its next significant move,” he told Bernama.

At the close, the spot-month June 2026 contract fell to US$4,073.70 per troy ounce from US$4,118.10 at Tuesday’s close, while the July 2026 contract went down to US$4,088.10 per troy ounce from US$4,132.50. The August 2026 contract decreased to US$4,110.40 per troy ounce from US$4,154.10.

The September 2026 contract declined to US$4,114.90 per troy ounce from US$4,158.60 at the previous close, while the October 2026 and December 2026 contracts were lower at US$4,134 per troy ounce from US$4,177.70.

Trading volume slipped to 17 lots from 19 on Tuesday while open interest was down to 82 contracts from 86 previously.

Meanwhile, physical gold was fixed at US$4,135.50 per troy ounce at the London Bullion Market Association afternoon fix on June 23, 2026.
